EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Polaris is recalling more than 10,000 recreational off-road vehicles affixed with winches due to a fire hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The winch wiring on the off-road vehicles can overheat while in use, posing a fire risk to the driver and passenger. The off-road vehicles were sold in the colors camouflage, red and silver at Polaris dealers nationwide for between $40,000 and $50,000. The recall involves certain VINs of the Polaris Model Year 2024 RANGER XD 1500 and RANGER CREW XD 1500 vehicles. It also includes 4,500 winches that were purchased as an accessory. Polaris has received one report of a fire, though no one was injured. Anyone who purchased one of the recalled off-road vehicles or winches is urged to stop using it and to contact an authorized Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair and to confirm there's a proper winch ground connection.
