OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Attention all skateboarders and bike riders! The Trailhead Bike Park near Riversport now has some revamped trails among other amenities thanks to a nearly $1 million expansion project. They celebrated the grand opening of the high flying and fast riding track Friday. "So, we have something really for everyone here in a really compact urban setting,” founder of Riversport Mike Knopp said. "This is a really nice asset and it's great to bring everybody from the region together here in Oklahoma City right here on the river,” cyclist Tammy Fate said. RELATED COVERAGE: Expanded Trailhead Bike Park set for Grand Opening The revamped, mixed elevation trail rounds out where you can ride across the rooftops of the parks repurposed shipping containers before dropping in. But if the thrill of BMX isn’t your style, anything with wheels, but no motor, is welcome for all ages. They also have other amenities like a coffee shop, community garden and an outdoor classroom area. "We see this is the gathering point for the community,” Knopp said. It’s situated on the 100 miles of growing trail network in the city. People of all ages can come cruise and get outdoors while becoming a part of the community, which is also a big emphasis for this project. "I love cycling. I feel like it is life changing,” Fate said. “The people you meet, the experiences you have, I mean, we're like a family." Fate has been in Oklahoma City for 10 years. She rides trails here often and said with this parks central location, it’ll become part of her outdoor experience more often. "Really a great place to kind of hone in on your skills and make you a better rider,” she said. With the completion of the project, cyclists can now make a complete 80-mile loop around Oklahoma City on paved trails. You can find more information on the park here.
