INDIANAPOLIS – Three juvenile robbery suspects are in custody following a pursuit and crash early Friday morning on Indy's northwest side. The three were suspected in a series of armed robberies that occurred Thursday night and Friday morning, police said. One of those robberies took place at a food truck on West 16th Street. Luckily, the victim of that crime survived the terrifying encounter. Alejandra Moreno recalls the frightening moments when she and her husband were working in the food truck just after midnight and were confronted by three armed thieves. "They asked me for money and told me they were going to kill me if I don't give them the money," said Alejandra Moreno. Moreno and her husband ducked for cover inside the locked truck and called 911. As the suspects ran away from the scene, Moreno claims they fired one shot in the air and stole her tip jar filled with cash. "I'm just trying to get some money for my family, you know," said Moreno. That resulted in a chase that ended near 38th and Georgetown when the suspects collided with a stopped car. Two teenagers were quickly taken into custody.  IMPD used drones and the K9 Unit to find the third juvenile suspect. At least one firearm was recovered from the crash scene. The driver of the stopped vehicle had to be extricated by firefighters and EMS, although IMPD said the individual had minor injuries and complained of pain before being taken to a hospital as a precaution. Fortunately, no one involved in the crash suffered major injuries. Police believe the teenagers may have committed a series of robberies before being caught, but say those cases remain under investigation. "I can't emphasize enough how important it is for the community to come forward," said IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson. IMPD credits the victim's assistance and license plate readers for helping solve the case so quickly. "Speaking up and utilizing technology and community cooperation was imperative in allowing us to apprehend these violent suspects," said Thompson. "I'm still worried. I'm not sure I want to go to work," said Moreno. Despite the suspects being arrested, Moreno admits she's scared to go back to work. At the same time, she pleaded with the young suspects to stop victimizing innocent people. "Please stop doing bad things. You can do better things," said Moreno. Ultimately it will be up to the Marion County prosecutor's office to file formal charges. Because of the young ages of the suspects involved, at least some of the charges will have to be filed in juvenile court.
