HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Access to Kahaualea Natural Area Reserve on Hawaii Island will be restored starting October 4, 2024, at noon.

The Kahaualea Trail, also known as the Captain’s Trail, will reopen simultaneously.

The reserve had been closed since mid-September due to unsafe conditions linked to volcanic activity at Kilauea Volcano.
