(CENTER, Colo.) — Two officers with the Center Police Department were charged with theft after pocketing money that should have gone to the town of Center, Colorado. Twin brothers, Chief Aaron Fresquez, and his brother Sergeant Adam Fresquez were both issued summons and charged with theft. Chief Aaron Fresquez was also charged with a misdemeanor count of official misconduct. Allegedly, the 25-year-old brothers had operated a private K-9 training business during their on-duty hours using city resources. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said both men trained K-9 dogs for other police agencies and then pocketed the training proceeds that should have gone to the town of Center. The charges follow a year-long investigation by the CBI at the request of the 12th Judicial District Attorney's Office who requested the 6th Judicial District Attorney's Office act as special prosecutors to avoid any conflict of interest. Both men were given summons to appear in the 12th Judicial District Courthouse at a later date. The Town of Center has placed both brothers on administrative leave and appointed Lieutenant Eidy Guaderama to the position of Intern Chief. This is an open investigation.
