BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A new plaintiff and more officers have been added to a lawsuit against the Baton Rouge Police Department regarding the warehouse known as the Brave Cave. Police said the building was used for narcotic processing by the BRPD Street Crimes Unit. The team was terminated after allegations of beatings and strip searches. According to the federal lawsuit, T'Niyah Bass was 16 years old and seven months pregnant when she was taken to the Brave Cave on Jan. 9, 2023. Bass and two other teen girls were sitting in front of a house eating crawfish when an officer placed them in the back of a patrol car for hours, according to a court filing. Matthew Wallace, the lead investigator, reportedly ordered that they be taken to the Brave Cave. Federal judge rules Baton Rouge Police strip search policy unconstitutional, must stop She was then "subjected to an invasive and sexually humiliating strip search at the hands of an unknown white male BRPD officer," the suit said. The suit said Bass, now 18, was released from police custody without being arrested and has not been formally indicted. The original plaintiff, Jeremy Lee, was taken to the facility the same day and claims to have been beaten so severely he needed medical care before being booked. In the filings, attorneys named the Brave Cave as a "black site." Another lawsuit filed on behalf of Ternell Brown alleges officers pulled her over, took her to the “black site” and strip-searched her. The defendants named in the lawsuit include Wallace, Joseph Carboni, Tafari Beard, Steven Nevels, the City of Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge, Parish John Doe officers and Troy Lawrence Jr. Latest News New judge could give Diddy another attempt to win bail What renters should know about breaking a lease to buy a home Federal lawsuit claims pregnant Baton Rouge teen was taken to Brave Cave, strip searched Get in-person help at new disaster recovery center in Assumption Parish after Hurricane Francine Ohio woman's viral TikTok videos lead prompt search for body in her yard
