NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) -- Another disaster recovery center has opened in Louisiana to help Assumption Parish residents who were affected by Hurricane Francine. FEMA Media Relations Specialist Nikki Gaskins Campbell said the federal agency is ready to start the work to help disaster survivors get back on their feet. "Residents can go there and meet with FEMA representatives who are more than happy to talk to them and find out how they may be able to assist them," Campbell said. With every resource available at the location, she encourages applicants to first file claims with their insurance, whether it is homeowners, renters or flood insurance. The Small Business Administration is also lending a helping hand, partnering with FEMA to offer aid and loans to those in need. SBA spokesperson Africa Rosas said they offer financial help for physical and economic damages. The application process for applying with the SBA is different, according to Rosas. Residents must first qualify for the different loans they offer. After qualifying, they're shown the expected amount and have up to six months to decide on whether or not they'll accept the offer. She said residents who qualify do not have to start paying back the loan until after a year. Rosas said if improvements are needed for your home or business, people could be eligible for up to a 20% loan amount increase above the real estate damage. She said no matter how big or small the damage, she encourages people to still apply so they are in the system. Was your home damaged in Francine? FEMA to offer help to Louisiana residents with hurricane damage Campbell said residents should apply in person for assistance to get face-to-face help. With others affected by Hurricane Helene, she said their phone line will be the busiest so it's best to speak with a representative in person. She said dozens of organizations are working together to provide as much relief as possible. "We are all working closely together with the state, the local officials, nonprofits, the Small Business Administration. All of us are working very closely to help disaster survivors with their road to recovery," she said. The Disaster Recovery Center in Napoleonville will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Click here for more information on FEMA assistance.
