COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Columbus hookah bar in the Weinland Park neighborhood has been boarded up after a series of violent crimes in recent months. City Attorney Zack Klein announced Friday that a temporary restraining order to shut down the MIA Hookah Café on the corner of East 5th Avenue and Summit Street had been secured. The hookah bar had seen multiple violent crimes, including a triple homicide, Klein said. (NBC4 Photo/Bill Reagan) Court documents showed Columbus police have received 19 calls for service to the hookah bar. One of those was a May 18 shooting that left three people dead. On Sept. 24, police responded to another incident there that resulted in four people being shot. During a nuisance abatement inspection days after the mass shooting in May, the hookah bar's owners were cited with four violations related to illegal possession of liquor and three violations related to poor sanitary conditions. In addition to the MIA Hookah Café, the city attorney's Property Action Team is also planning to go after Del Baggio Pizzeria, which is located across the street. CPD has responded to more than a dozen calls for service to that location as well, court documents revealed. The city intends to declare Del Baggio Pizzeria a public nuisance in the coming weeks.
