OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- “Medalist of the match is basically between the two teams, the individual who has the lowest score,” explained Oceanside High School golfer Kassidy Stevens. This season Stevens has earned medalist of the match nine times. The senior carded a score of 34 against Mount Carmel recently, the lowest score of her career. “At the end, adding up and getting the reassurance of the score I thought it was going to be -- it was really nice,” says Stevens. The two-year captain of the Lady Pirates is joining the Coastal League this year. She was undefeated in the Avocado League last year, eventually losing to the state champion -- the Torrey Pine Falcons. MLB legend Pete Rose’s cause of death revealed “Definitely coming off the wins we had last year, it’s a little tough know the competitions is going to be better," she explained. "But at the end of the day, we are still playing the same course. It's not about me versus the other girls, it’s about me versus the course." The 17-year-old is proud of how far the Oceanside girls' golf team has come since she first grabbed her clubs. “I think it’s great to see how successful the program has gotten, having girls come from other sport to try and make commitments to this team. I feel proud to be apart of program like that,” sais Stevens. Not only is she killing it on the golf course, Stevens is a four-year varsity starter for soccer and she has a 4.4 GPA. “At first it was hard to find that balance of playing two sports and keeping my grades up. I have to make sacrifice and not being to hang with friends or stay home or do homework to ultimately achieve the goal I set for myself” Stevens continued.
