MANHATTAN (KSNT) - The Riley County Police Department (RCPD) worked on a string of vehicle thefts and vehicle burglaries on Tuesday, Oct. 1. According to the RCPD, there were three reported vehicle thefts and two vehicle burglaries on Tuesday. The thefts started at 9:20 a.m. and the last reported theft was at 10:33 a.m. The combined monetary loss associated with the thefts was $28,000. City of Topeka lists properties for sale through Land Bank The vehicle thefts and burglaries happened in the following areas: Vehicle Theft 9:20 a.m. in the 1200 block of Kearny Street. The loss associated with the theft of a 2012 Chevy Silverado was $16,000. 10:28 a.m. in the 900 block of Chaflin Road. The loss associated with the theft of a 2003 Yamaha T25 was $4,000. 10:33 a.m. in the 1000 block of Bertrand Street. The loss associated with the theft of a Kawasaki ZX6R was $8,000. Vehicle Burglary 5:24 p.m. in the 1100 block of Yuma Street. The total loss associated was $1,300. 8:25 p.m. at the corner of Yuma and 6th Streets. The loss associated was $2,450. RCPD Spokeswoman Ashley Tokoi told 27 News that this number of thefts is abnormal for one day and that the RCPD believes the thefts were connected. She said the truck was seen leaving the city and was later recovered a few blocks from where it was stolen. She said the motorcycles have yet to be recovered. Back in July, the RCPD reported nine car thefts within 30 days. The RCPD said most of them could've been avoided. The RCPD reminded people to keep valuables out of their cars, keep their vehicles locked and not leave their keys in their cars.
