LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) - Liberty County Fire Services (LCFS) has dedicated a new fire station off of East Oglethorpe Highway in Midway. The new station, which cost just over $8 Million, is just under 25,000 square feet and will house 12 firefighters. It can sleep 24, leaving 12 on duty. The structure is complete with three drive-in bays, two back-in bays and administrative headquarters. “What is more significant about this building is the area in which it serves," said Fire Chief Brian Darby. "It serves an area which has had a very delayed fire response and has had an extremely high ISO [Insurance Service Offices] rating. And all of that has changed.” The station was built using Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds. In addition, the new facility will also help homeowners' home insurance rates with the area in which it services. Former Liberty County Sherriff candidate collecting Helene donations
