Rhode Island announces two probable human West Nile Virus cases

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has announced two probable human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV).
The cases have affected a Newport County resident in their 60s and a Providence County resident in their 50s, respectively.
There have been three other confirmed cases of WNV and one probable case of the virus.
There have been no positive findings of WNV or Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in recent mosquito test samples.
72 samples were collected from 28 traps set statewide by DEM from September 23-25.
