(ABC36 NEWS NOW) – With the general election looming, Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams has announced that 24,536 Kentuckians registered to vote in September, making it the highest monthly total for the year. This surge comes as the deadline to register approaches on October 7 at 4:00 PM, according to a release. Adams noted the increase, saying, “Kentuckians are increasingly tuning in to the general election.” He reminded that registrations could be made conveniently online at govote.ky.gov. Despite the surge, this year’s figures still trail behind those of the same period in 2020, which saw 54,494 new voters, according to the release. The update also included details on voter registration maintenance, with 5,404 voters removed from the rolls in September for various reasons, including those who have passed away, moved states, or had duplicate registrations. The breakdown of the electorate shows that Republican registrants make up 47 percent, increasing by 14,283 voters. Democratic registrants account for 43 percent, with a modest increase of 414 voters. Independents and other political affiliations, making up 11 percent of the electorate, saw an increase of 4,435 voters.
