ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Mercy Chefs specializes in disaster relief, community kitchens, and food insecurity response. The team has boots on the ground in Western North Carolina and other parts of southeast dealing with the aftermath of Helene. They’ve provided more than 200,000 meals since September 30th. Mercy Chefs, Co-Founder and President, Ann LeBlanc said, “So we have fresh vegetables and um, salad and fruits and our complete meals. And so that’s our goal in disasters to try to really feed body and soul.” LeBlanc is leading the effort from a parking lot setup at Mission Hospital in Asheville. She and her team are serving up food to hospital staff, patients and their families while also taking delivery requests to hard to reach areas. A week after the storm there are still signs of the devastation. “It is very devastating,” said LeBlanc,  “there is town after town after town that has been wiped away from this storm. It’s biblical in proportion, I think.” Helene marks mercy chef’s largest deployment this year and with each plate served LeBlanc says her team is reassured they’re in the right place.
