MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- Myrtle Beach is dubbed the "Golf Capital of the World" for its dozens of award-winning golf courses, and a national organization is empowering women of color to learn and play the game of golf. Solomon said it started as a hobby. Man with Scoliosis lives out NASCAR dream with sim-racing "My husband plays golf and invited me to join him a few times to ride along in the golf cart," she said. "As he played each hole, I imagined how much more fun golf would be if I got out of the cart and into the game. I convinced two of my girlfriends to enroll in beginners golf clinics with me to learn how to play." The organization's motto is "Friendship, Fitness and Fun." Solomon said physical fitness is so important for mental health. Members will not only meet new people, but also get off the couch and get some fresh air. "We provide opportunities for members to learn golf through our golf academy, where we have a structured curriculum that our pros teach. We also provide opportunities for members to attend golf clinics," Solomon said. "It is also a safe space for ladies to get together to create their own foursomes or more to play together. It is also a great networking opportunity for members who are business professionals to network amongst each other." Queens on the Greens has five chapters. They're in Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Dallas, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Detroit, Michigan; and Myrtle Beach. To learn more about the group and how to join, click here.
