RIPON, Wis. (WFRV) - 170 years after the birth of the Republican Party in a small Ripon schoolhouse, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris stood onstage at Ripon College's Harwood Memorial Lawn Thursday evening, attempting to capitalize on what she and others perceive as fragmentation within the GOP to win over undecided voters. "No matter the political party, there's a place for you with us in this campaign," Harris said. "Because those principles I know unite us across party lines. And in this election, I take seriously my pledge to be a president for all Americans." One of them was former chair of the Republican Party of Brown County Mark Becker, who slammed the Republican Party and what it has become, saying it was an easy decision to endorse Harris. “The party’s completely unrecognizable," Becker said. "What they are now is a party of litmus tests and loyalty pledges and they have shied so far away from the big tent they used to be. The big tent is here with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.” Harris once again kept her remarks brief, under 17 minutes, just as she did at her first rally as a presidential candidate in Milwaukee in July, and did not mention former President Donald Trump by name until nearly seven minutes into her speech. "He, who violated the oath to uphold the constitution of the United States of America. And make no mistake, he, who if given the chance would violate it again.” Trump is expected to hold a rally in Juneau on Sunday.
