ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Our Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week is The East High Football Team.  This Eagles won a matchup that Section V fans have been waiting to see since it was announced that Monroe would move up to Class A. Both East and Monroe reached the state semifinals last year--East in Class A and Monroe in Class B. Both teams have multiple D-1 players on their roster. This game was also for the RCAC league bragging rights.  After trailing 14-0, East got on the board with a 30-yard FG by Yusuf Abdi just before the half. In the second half, East got a 46-yard touchdown run from Da'Mari Green and another long one from Jeremiah Tucker.  "We knew all week that it was going to take time for our game plan to kick in," East co-head coach Steve Flagler said. "End of the second quarter, we got it rolling. We didn't finish the drive, but Yusuf came out and got the field goal to get us on the board. I told them, 'Coming out in the second half, we're going to score, we're going to get a stop, we're going to score again. That's exactly what happened." Tucker was looking like Derrick Henry out there! He was unstoppable, gaining 147 yards on just 18 carries.  The defense, led by Anthony Hampton’s 13 tackles, shut out the vaunted Monroe offense in the second half. Final score: East 17, Monroe 14. "We already knew what we had to do. Handle business and come out and show them we're the 'big bro's'," Tucker said. "We were playing smack mouth football. We knew they couldn't compete with us. We played our game four quarters." "The theme all week was we were the little bro's. Sometimes you gotta put the little bro's in their place and the big bro's went and did that," East co-head coach James Vann said. "It wasn't about any individual," Flagler said. "It was about what?" As he pointed to the team gathered around, the Eagles shouted in unison, "Us!" Congratulations to the East High Football Team, coaches Flagler and Vann, for being our Spotlight Team of the Week!
