FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A toddler, two civilians and a firefighter have been hospitalized following a fire in an apartment complex in Fresno, the Fresno Fire Department said. Fire officials say two dogs also died as a result of the fire. Firefighters say they responded to an apartment fire in the area of 3420 N. First St. in Fresno around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. While en route, fire crews say they were informed that several people were trapped inside the apartment, which was engulfed in flames. According to the Fire Department, they were able to pull out a toddler from the apartment, who was transported to the hospital along with an adult and a seven-year-old. Fire crews add that it is believed the firefighter who rescued the toddler was the one sent to the hospital for burn injuries. On Thursday just before 10 p.m., the Fire Department reported the five-year-old toddler was in critical but stable condition, and the adult and seven-year-old were in stable condition. The firefighter who sustained burns to his ears and neck has since been discharged. According to firefighters, four apartments in the complex suffered damage, and 10 people ended up being displaced as a result. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
