SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Foggy conditions disrupted dozens of inbound and outbound flights throughout the day Thursday at the San Diego International Airport.  At one point, the website FlightAware showed average departure and arrival delays of roughly an hour and a half. In some cases, it was worse.  “Our friend that I’m waiting for right now was supposed to be here three hours ago. They are now waiting to get into their gate and hopefully come, and my brother and his husband were also supposed to arrive right now, but they will be here in three more hours," according to San Diego resident, Missy Waters. Due to the delays, she and her husband visited the airport three separate times to pick up loved ones coming into town for a birthday celebration. San Diego International Airport experiencing major delays Around 75 scheduled departures and nearly every arrival experienced some kind of delay, and roughly two dozen arrivals and departures were canceled. FlightAware noted low cloud cover as a cause. FOX 5/KUSI reached out to an airport representative for additional information, but they were not available. Among the passengers impacted are members of the San Diego Urban Search and Rescue California Task Force 8 team, who finally landed around 8:20 p.m., an estimated two hours past their originally scheduled landing time. A second flight of firefighters was also delayed. They are part of a team that was headed to North Carolina to help with hurricane relief efforts. "Ironically I went from another flight that was delayed, rebooked it, and then I wound up getting this one that was delayed again," stated San Diego resident, Alex Zaliznyak. While Zaliznyak said the experience was frustrating, he "would rather be a little delayed but in one piece, than be on time or having to go through the fog or whatever the issues are.”
