HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. — A former Taylor Community School Corporation employee and basketball coach in Howard County is on leave and facing charges after police said he sent inappropriate photos and videos to an underaged victim. According to the Howard County Sheriff's Office, officers began an investigation on Sept. 25 examining multiple explicit texts sent from 49-year-old Randy "Scott" Sullivan to one of his teenage basketball players — a student at Taylor High School. Further investigation found that the photos and videos sent in the texts originated from Sullivan's home, and the phone number belonged to him. Randy "Scott" Sullivan (HCSO) The following day, HCSO officers spoke with the victim, who affirmed that they had been groomed for an extended period by a trusted adult. This led police to contact Sullivan, who denied an interview. Per a police report, Sullivan drove the victim to and from basketball practice and school events. The victim initially thought this was just a simple act of kindness until he attempted to get more intimate with them. Reportedly, the victim tried to push him away "over a hundred" times. The victim added that Sullivan often took their phone away "for his safety" and threatened suicide if anyone ever found out about his actions. The victim also told police of Sullivan's jealousy when they spoke about people they dated, and admitted Sullivan provided the victim with vapes "more than five times." The police report added that the victim mentioned the names of other victims, which could possibly be additional victims of Sullivan. Then, on Sept. 27, the HCSO said they learned that Sullivan had left in his vehicle for about a day and a half, with friends and family unable to contact him. They said that a note was discovered in his vehicle once he returned, which contained apologies to friends, his wife and children and the victim "...for letting everyone down and for things getting out of control." Sullivan reportedly wrote this on a Taylor High School homecoming order and claimed that only one victim was involved. According to a police report, the victim believed this to be a suicide note — likely due to his suicidal tendencies in their previous meetings. Many of Sullivan's friends and family also feared he had plans to end his life. These findings culminated in detectives ending their initial investigation on Sept. 30 and obtaining a warrant for Sullivan's arrest on Thursday. At around 5:30 p.m., Sullivan turned himself into the Howard County Jail, the HCSO said. In addition to a $50,000 cash bond, Sullivan faces the following preliminary charges: Child solicitation (Level 5 Felony) Sexual battery (Level 6 Felony) Dissemination of matter harmful to minors (Level 6 Felony) Moreover, in an announcement to parents and guardians, Taylor School Corporation Superintendent Steve Dishon confirmed Sullivan is currently on leave. "As the situation developed and facts were uncovered, Taylor Community School Corporation terminated the employee and trespassed him from any Taylor property or event in which Taylor students participate," Dishon wrote. "From the moment the accusation was made, he has had no access to our students." Dishon also added that the school district plans to review school policies and protocols regarding its staff and coaches. It also plans to educate students on the signs of grooming and how to put it to an end. In a Facebook post from Taylor Community School Corporation, the district stated that a meeting will take place where parents can learn about plans to ensure school and student safety. This will occur from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 4-5 p.m. on Friday. "I want to reassure everyone that we are addressing all areas in which we can improve our existing safety guidelines and policies," the post reads. "Of course, we are always open to suggestions and ideas."
