METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) — Preparing for the Chiefs' offense is never an easy task with quarterback Patrick Mahomes making everything look smooth. This week is a little more difficult for the Saints because of all the injuries to starters on the Kansas City offense. The Chiefs lost their top receiver Rashee Rice Sunday with a knee injury and are already without receiver Hollywood Brown and running back Isiah Pacheco. Just because Kansas City is without those contributors, doesn’t mean the Saints can’t game plan. New Orleans is expecting the Chiefs to use the same scheme and have a next-man-up mentality.  "I think you have to prepare for the scheme and then use your best judgment as to where they're going to try to utilize people within the scheme," said Saints head coach Dennis Allen. "I think they'll have to be some sort of an adjustment in terms of who they have playing in certain spots." New Orleans Saints’ defense tasked with challenge of facing Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes “I think that's one thing that helps them excel and propels them forward is the fact that everybody on their team is kind of interchangeable and I mean and utmost respect, respectful way," said Khalen Saunders, Saints defensive tackle. "There is no drop off when you know, anybody comes out. You just got to kind of go out there and treat it as gray matter and just be like whoever's out there we got to execute what we have to do and that'll give us our best chance of winning.” Among those not injured, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Kelce’s production isn’t what it typically is this season. He only has 15 catches for 158 yards and no touchdowns. Despite that, the Saints said he’s still a guy you have to account for, especially on scramble plays because he’s so good at finding the void in the zone.
