WASHINGTON D.C. (KGET) -- The 50th Kern County Honor Flight is now on its way back home. The veterans spent their third and final day in Washington D.C. preparing to return to Kern County and a welcome home from family and supporters Thursday night at 7 p.m. "And going on this honor flight is like a dream come true," Vietnam veteran Jesus Rubinol Jr. said. "If it wasn't for the honor flight, I probably would never be here." Throughout the trip, veterans spoke about the impact being in the nation's capital left on them. "I didn't realize how extensive it was and how--how much we would be able to see and's just been great," Vietnam veteran Ken Schultz said. "I'm seeing things that I just heard about and these people are doing a fine job," Vietnam veteran Steve Ornelas said. "The stories that they have, the things that they've seen, the sacrifices that they've made in defense of our country," Rep. Vince Fong said about the veterans on the trip, "it's our solemn responsibility to share those stories with the world." The veterans' flight is set to arrive at Meadows
