AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 12 Westlake jumped out to a 49-0 lead at halftime and cruised to a 70-0 win over Akins on Thursday at Chaparral Stadium in the KBVO Game of the Week. Chaparrals head coach Tony Salazar said he was happy he was able to get a lot of younger players in the ballgame. "It was a complete victory and it validates the whole week of hard work." Chaps quarterback Rees Wise threw two touchdown passes in the opening quarter, a 35-yarder to Cal Livengood who broke several tackles after the catch, and a 25-yard to Grady Bartlett. Bartlett and Livengood also had rushing touchdowns in the first frame. Elijah Clark had three rushing touchdowns for the Chaps including a 15-yard scamper in the second quarter. Sophomore Braden Riddell returned a punt 61 yards for a score at the end of the third quarter to put an exclamation point on the big win. Westlake (4-1, 1-0) goes to House Park on Oct. 10 to take Austin High while Akins (3-3, 0-2) has a bye next week.
