WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Police Department said it arrested a woman on Wednesday while working a special assignment related to the strike at Textron Aviation. The WPD said in a press release officers warned a 64-year-old Wichita woman twice Wednesday morning about her conduct "being a violation of Wichita City Ordinance 5.48.020(a)(1) which prohibits impeding the free flow of traffic on any public street and is a misdemeanor." WPD said the woman "engaged in" that conduct again and was arrested. Twin babies who died alongside their mother are youngest-known Helene victims WPD said before the strike, it met with union leaders and Textron management to plan to maintain safety and order. "In this instance, a specific individual refused to comply with City Ordinance after beingeducated at least two times regarding illegal conduct that caused a hazard to the public byquickly stepping into the roadway in front of vehicles," the release said. "WPD’s role is to ensure the safety of everyone, including strikers, and preserving order in our community which includesenforcing the city code. During past strikes, there have been incidents of motor vehicle collisions causing death. Additionally, during this strike WPD officers have responded to collisions caused by strike activity."
