Although they were competitive in a couple of the games, the Lower Bucks County football teams continued to struggle last week against Suburban One League competition. Pennsbury produced a strong defense effort but still came up on the short end of a 12-7 score against undefeated Central Bucks South. Neshaminy, meanwhile, suffered its second loss when it was defeated by Central Bucks West, 21-10. Both would still currently qualify for the 16-team District 1 Class 6A playoffs. but both will once again be underdogs this week. Unless one of them can produce an upset over the next three weeks, the regular season ending Pennsbury-Neshaminy game could very well determine which of them makes the playoffs. The big winner last week was Bensalem, which kept its playoffs alive with a 31-13 victory over Council Rock South. Obviously, this result severely hurt Rock South’s chances of making the playoffs for the second straight year. Central Bucks West (4-2) at Pennsbury (3-3), Friday, 7 p.m. – With an away game at North Penn (6-1) on deck, the Falcons could really use a win here in an attempt to return to the playoffs. C.B. West is a physical defensive team and it will not be easy for Pennsbury to run the ball with a rebuilt offensive line. Led by Ryan Clemens, C.B. West also has a strong running game. What makes this interesting is the strength of Pennsbury’s team is stopping the run. Look for a low-scoring slugfest with plenty of hard hitting. Bensalem (3-3) at Souderton (3-3) Friday, 7 p.m. – Both teams are fighting for a playoff berth and are coming off big wins. The Owls definitely impressed in their win over Rock South and their confidence is up. Still, this is a very difficult road assignment. Souderton owns a victory over Central Bucks West and beat Cheltenham, 39-14, last week. Cheltenham prevailed at Bensalem two weeks ago, 31-14. Kipp-Dubois (4-2) at Morrisville (5-1), Friday, 7 p.m. – Raymond Holman ripped off a 65-yard touchdown run on Mo’ville’s  first play last week and Morrisville was off and running to a 68-0 victory over winless Renaissance Academy Charter. The score was 41-0 early in the second quarter and the Dawgs could have scored 100. Both teams have lost to Lower Moreland, but Morrisville has played the tougher schedule. Look for another comfortable victory for the home team at the Robert Morris Stadium. Neshaminy (4-2) at Pennridge (4-2), Saturday, noon – The Redskins are probably a slight underdog, but this represents a great chance to all but lock up a playoff berth. Pennridge can throw the ball and tends to be particularly tough at home, but Neshaminy’s defense will keep the team in most of its games. Although the Redskin offense isn’t explosive, it does have a nice balance and has been bolstered by the return of running back Carter Clee. Executive Education Academy (4-2) at Conwell-Egan (2-3), Saturday, 2 p.m. – This is another game where you should not pay a lot of attention to the records. The visitors from the Lehigh Valley did win at Bristol, 48-19, three weeks ago, but has not played nearly as difficult a schedule as Conwell-Egan. You also have to like the way the Eagles’ offense has come to life, including a 34-27 loss to Archbishop Ryan last week. Truman (1-5) at Council Rock South (2-4), Saturday, noon – Rock South’s loss last week was not good news for the Tigers. Rock South still has an outside shot at the playoffs and Truman has now scored only 19 points in its last five games. As Rock South’s loss against Bensalem showed, its defense is vulnerable against a team with speed. Truman has some speed, but it’s the Hawks that have the better lines. Lower Moreland (4-2) at Bristol (3-1) Saturday, 7 p.m. – After a 4-1 start that included a win over Morrisville, Lower Moreland has lost twice against strong teams. What’s scary for Bristol is it only played two games in September and there’s bound to be some rust. Bristol’s three wins are against teams with a combined record of 3-15. Could this be the year the Warriors’ 22-game winning streak against Morrisville comes to an end? Council Rock North (1-5) at Cheltenham (1-5), Saturday, 3:30 p.m. – Although both teams have the same record, Cheltenham has been the more solid team. The Panthers lost to Neshaminy by only seven points and won at Bensalem by 17. Other than a tight win over Truman, Rock North has given up at least 34 points in every game. District 1 Class 6A 1. North Penn (6-0) 1.030; 2. Downingtown West (6-0) 990; 3. Central Bucks South (6-0) 950; 4. Owen J. Roberts (5-1) 830; 5. Perkiomen Valley (4-2) 790; 6. Haverford (5-1) 130; 7. Central Bucks West (4-2) 770; 8. Pennridge (4-2) 760; 9. Ridley (4-2) 740; 10. Neshaminy (4-2) 710; 11. Downingtown East (4-2) 700; 12. Spring-Ford (3-3) 105; 13. Quakertown (3-3), Pennsbury (3-3), Plymouth-Whitemarsh (4-1) 105 apiece; 16. Coatesville (4-2) 101; 20. Bensalem  (3-3) 530; 23. Council Rock South (2-4) 460; 26. Council Rock North (1-5) 330; 28. Truman (1-5) 270.
