TOPEKA (KSNT) - Crews with the City of Emporia will be making two months worth of repairs to a stretch of Highway 99. An Emporia contractor started a multi-phase project that spans more than one mile one Hwy 99 the week of Sept. 30. According to a news release from the City of Emporia, the project will be at Commercial Street from Kansas Avenue to the BNSF Railroad tracks, 12th Avenue from Commercial Street to Merchant Street and Merchant Street from 12th Avenue to I-35. This project will be comprised of resurfacing the asphalt street, traffic signal loop detector repairs and pavement markings. Old Navy prepares to open its doors in Emporia According to a social media post from the City of Emporia, milling on the south part is complete. Now, the city anticipates traffic patterns will change as the project continues. According to the city, traffic delays may occur, but two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. A breakdown of the project according to the City of Emporia is listed below: Once milling is completed in the south phase, the city's contractor will move to the north phase. This will involve milling 12th Avenue from Commercial Street to Merchant Street, and Merchant Street from 12th Avenue to the I-35 Highway. After the asphalt milling, operations may include traffic signal loop wire repairs at South Avenue and 12th Avenue. After the milling and any traffic signal loop wire repairs, asphalt paving will begin in the south phase of the project with the north phase to follow. The project is expected to last up to two months.
