NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Showers and storms are drifting north Thursday evening with some locally heavy downpours. Expect lighter rain overall for areas north of I-12 over the next couple of days. Heaviest activity will be south of I-10 and along the coast where 2-3 inches of rain will be possible through Saturday. The rain chance will continue around 50-60% on Friday with showers and storms through the day. It won't rain all day in any one spot. We go back down to the 30% range for the weekend with most of the activity along the coast. Daytime highs will be lower Friday and Saturday with low 80s. We will continue to watch the Caribbean and the Gulf through the first week of October. The NHC is once again highlighting these areas with a 30% chance of tropical development over the next 7 days. Right now it looks like just a broad circulation may develop by the end of the week or the weekend. We could see something form from that after that point, but with a cold front moving in early next week it would likely stay to our south and east. Either way no concern at the moment. Chances of development may still need to be watched through next week as we head towards the middle of the month.
