FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – As recovery and outreach efforts continue across the country for areas hit by Hurricane Helene, several organizations in Fort Wayne are joining in. Helene has left widespread devastation across the southeastern United States claiming over 200 lives in its wake. After speaking with some friends who live in Asheville, North Carolina, Kyle Hogan owner of Bristle Painting in Fort Wayne knew he wanted to do something to help. "There are people just stranded with nothing. You know, they lost everything. Homes completely destroyed. It's a little bit different than hurricane Katrina because those homes in that area were built to survive a hurricane but, in the mountains, they weren't," said Hogan. Hogan has partnered with Bob Rohrman and Sherwin-Williams stores in Fort Wayne and he's asking the public to donate much-needed survival supplies such as food, water, blankets, and hygiene products. He hopes to be able to fill a box truck and plans to drive down to drop everything off on Oct 18. You can bring supplies to the Bob Rohrman Lexus on Illinois Rd or any Sherwin-Williams store in Fort Wayne. Hogan said he will be posting video updates when he gets down to the relief site so people can see their donations go to good use. There is also a GoFundMe link on his Facebook page for those who aren't able to donate items, click here for the link. Another local company is doing their share to help with relief efforts. Buchanan Hauling & Rigging will also be collecting donations throughout the week. They were able to send 18 trucks back when hurricane Katrina hit so this time, they are hoping to send 20. They plan on leaving next Wednesday, you can drop off supplies to their location at 5130 Executive Blvd.
