A Ketchum nonprofit is set to receive $690,000 in federal grant funding for sports and activities tailored to veterans with disabilities, called adaptive sports. The Idaho Capital Sun reports the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on Monday announced the funding for Higher Ground Sun Valley, Inc.. In a news release, the VA says its Adaptive Sports Grant Program will give $15.9 million in total grants to 91 programs across the U.S. and its territories in federal FY24, affecting more 15,000 veterans and Armed Forces members. VA Secretary Denis McDonough said in the release that adaptive sports and recreational activities can be transformational for veterans living with disabilities, improving their overall physical and mental health, and also giving them important community with fellow heroes who served. The Idaho grant award will fund adaptive sports, recreational activities and horse therapy for veterans and service members who have disabilities.
