MINOT, ND (KXNET) — A fire that broke out this afternoon in the Wheatland Village Community in Minot has been contained by the Minot Fire Department. At about 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, the Minot Fire Department responded to a fire at the 5100 block of 16th Ave. Upon arrival, crews saw flames and heavy smoke coming from the structure. After ensuring that all occupants had safely exited the building, firefighters from all five stations began suppressing the fire. The crews worked together to bring the fire under control, and no injuries were reported. The residents have been connected with the Red Cross for assistance. Burgum declares statewide fire emergency The property has significant damage, though the City of Minot says it could have been much worse if not for the swift response of the fire department. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The City of Minot reminds people to be prepared in the event of a fire by reviewing their building's safety plans, seeing if there's an established escape route, and making sure they have working smoke alarms.
