First Chavez, Huerta Leadership conference happening Thursday, Friday at CSUB

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- California State University Bakersfield is hosting the inaugural Chavez Huerta Leadership Conference Thursday and Friday.
The event aims to be the premier social justice conference in the country to highlight the impact of the civil rights efforts by Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta that began in the fields of Kern.
‘No imminent threat’ at American Elementray
Day one of the conference featured keynote speaker Linda Yvette Chavez, creator of the Netflix series "Gentefied" and writer for "Flamin' Hot."
Newly appointed President Dr. Vernon B Harper Jr. and nationally renowned writers, scholars, and artists also spoke Thursday.

On Friday, the conference moves to the National Cesar E. Chavez National Monument in Keene.
Events for the Oct. 4 event include a walking tour of the monument and panel discussions.
