COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Almost four years ago to the day, Better Call 4 brought you the story of a Columbus woman who said she was ticketed for parking in her own driveway.  Now, another local police department is warning drivers of the same violation.  Homeowner Carolyn Harper-Munnerlyn woke up to find a parking ticket on her car, which was in her driveway.  “Are you kidding me?” she said that morning in 2020.  Watch: Why you could get a parking ticket in your driveway Harper-Munnerlyn was cited for parking on the sidewalk.  "Came after us because the part of the sidewalk that comes across our driveway was covered,” she said. “Mine, partially.”  According to Columbus police, that was enough to warrant a citation.  “Basically, even just that extension of her bumper being out between her driveway and getting out of it, in between the sidewalk, is what, what the issue was,” Columbus police Sgt. James Fuqua said at the time.  The Columbus Code of Ordinances states, “No person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle except when necessary in any of the following places,” including a sidewalk.  Why? Because it could create an issue for pedestrians.  And now, the Madison Township Police Department is sending that reminder to residents, nearly four years after Harper-Munnerlyn received her ticket. The department recently posted a photo and message to its social media.  “Please respect pedestrian right-of-way when parking vehicles in personal drive ways,” the post states. “The Ohio Revised Code prohibits the parking on sidewalks (4511.68(A)(1)). Doing so impedes pedestrian traffic from passing safely, especially children and those with mobility issues. Be kind and mindful of our neighbors!"
