Work on the Willoughby Hills Bishop Road bridge continues. According to Mayor Chris Hallum, the deck has been poured and the process of back filling next to the bridge is currently taking place. “They are preparing the area to the south of the bridge for the concrete road base,” Hallum said. “They will then tear up the existing road approximately 80 feet from the bridge in preparation for the new asphalt.” The north side of the bridge will follow, as well as the paving of the new road section with guard rails and removal of construction debris to finish. Work is expected to be completed by the end of October, according to Hallum. Work on the bridge commenced in July. The bridge is located approximately mid-way between U.S. Route 6 and White Road, south of Evergreen Avenue, and spans the Euclid Creek North Tributary. The work includes the replacement of the existing concrete slab bridge with a new concrete slab one, replacement of approach pavement, drainage, drive aprons for properties adjacent to the bridge, traffic control and a new guardrail. The overall project cost has been estimated at $900,000. In 2023, Lake County commissioners unanimously adopted resolutions in moving several infrastructure projects forward, including the Bishop Road project. According to Lake County Engineer James R. Gills, agreements with the Ohio Department of Transportation for the project were well-received through County Engineers Association of Ohio as part of the extra money the state received through the Build Back Better Plan.
