Oct 03, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As fall foliage nears its peak in much of the Adirondacks this week, colors are starting to pop in the Finger Lakes Region.
That’s according to the fourth weekly I LOVE NY Fall Foliage Report of 2024.
For a second week in a row, local volunteers reported the greatest changes in Steuben County, with a 50 percent increase in bright gold, yellow, and orange leaves in Corning, Hammondsport, and Hornell.
Seneca County saw a 45 percent change, with red leaves and some golden hues emerging in Waterloo.
Wayne County volunteers reported a 30 percent color shift in Lyons, with yellows and deep reds making an appearance.
Livingston County and Yates County both reported a 25 percent change, with yellow leaves popping in Geneseo and Penn Yan.
The Rochester area reported its biggest changes to date, with a 25 percent increase in green-yellow, red, dark red, and maroon leaves in Brighton. Changes are more dramatic to the east nearing the Finger Lakes and to the southwest toward Letchworth State Park.
In Ontario County, a 10 percent increase in yellow, red, and rust-colored leaves was reported in Canandaigua, Victor, Geneva, Clifton Springs, South Bristol, and Naples.
I LOVE NY’s fall foliage reports are based on field reports from more than 85 volunteers across the state. The reports are issued through the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NY program.
