Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools fired abruptly

(KRON) -- The Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools was abruptly terminated Thursday. The superintendent, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, was fired following a Santa Clara County Board of Education meeting Wednesday.
During that meeting, the board voted to terminate her without cause.

"It has been a complete honor and privilege to serve Santa Clara County, its schools, community, staff and students," said Dewan in a statement. "I have dedicated my life to service of our community and hold the work of the County Office of Education in high esteem. I am incredibly proud of all we have done together to advance equity, inclusion, diversity and partnership."
According to her bio on the county office of education website, Dewan has served in education for over 33 years and holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Indiana State University.
The Santa Clara County Office of Education did not elaborate on the board's decision to fire Dewan.
