WABAUNSEE COUNTY (KSNT) - The Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) proudly announced they were selected to receive federal grant funds to help fund the Student Resource Officer program. According to the WCSO, the U.S. Department of Justice awarded a grant that will help fund the SRO programs at USD 329 and USD 330. The WCSO said the grant would help fund the programs for four years. The WCSO wrote on social media Zoey Felix: 5-year-old’s death sparks change one year later The award is part of the 2024 COPS Hiring Program, a competitive award program designed to provide funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire additional career law enforcement officers. Wabaunsee County was awarded $249,874 as part of the grant program. In total, Kansas was awarded $874,874 with funds also going to the City of Columbus, County of Miami and the City of Sedgwick, according to the DOJ. For more local news, click here.
