Chesterfield County probationary police officer charged with filing false police report after offduty crash

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A probationary police officer with the Chesterfield County Police Department has been charged with filing a false police report in connection to a crash that occurred when the officer was off-duty.
According to police, the crash occurred in Chesterfield County, and the officer was arrested and charged earlier this week.
Police said the false report was discovered internally by a Chesterfield detective who was doing a follow-up investigation on the report. The detective reportedly notified his chain of command and investigations then began by the department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau and Internal Affairs Division.
Following an investigation and consultation with the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, investigators obtained a warrant for the officer's arrest for filing a false police report.
The officer was fired on Oct. 1, according to police.
The officer's involvement in the crash has not yet been released by police.
