HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- In celebration of Virginia Archeology Month, Petersburg National Battlefield will host archeology events throughout October. From 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, Oct. 10, Oct. 17 and Oct. 24, folks can participate in the Junior Archeology program and earn a badge by participating in short activities at the Hopewell Farmers Market. The National Park Service said all ages are welcome, and 15-minute programs are offered continuously throughout those three hours each Thursday. Beginning on Thursday, Oct. 3, the Hopewell branch of the Appomattox Regional Library will begin displaying the Leisure and Labor: The Archeology of Daily Life at City Point exhibit, which will be on view until November. On Sunday, Oct. 27, park rangers will host a guided walk at City Point, a town in Prince George County. Attendees will walk throughout the area and learn how the Appomattox and James rivers have influenced the town, according to the service. Archeology activity (Photo: National Park Service) Archeology activity (Photo: National Park Service) At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the Hopewell branch of the Appomattox Regional Library, underwater archeologist Brendan Burke will teach attendees about the Battle of Yorktown, the Siege of Petersburg and the building of modern Richmond maritime networks.
