PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Acting superintendent Yolonda Brown provided updates to her 100-day plan at Wednesday night's school board meeting. Brown first introduced the plan titled "A New Era of Visible Learning, Accountability and Care for All," at the board meeting on July 17. To help facilitate her transition into the division and begin executing her vision, she outlined her goals into five priority areas as a guide: Priority 1: Engage our Stakeholders and Build Relationships and Trust Priority 2: Recommit to Teaching, Learning, and Performance Priority 3: Assess District Leadership Capacity Priority 4: Evaluate District Finances, Operations, and Facilities Priority 5: Analyze Student and Staff Safety and Well-being "I vowed when I came to Petersburg that I would give the community and the school board an update on my work to implement the steps within my 100-day plan," Brown said at Wednesday night's school board meeting, addressing the school board and community members. The priorities Brown has not started, are currently in progress, and are complete are color-coded in red, yellow and green, respectively. Some actions completed were being visible and present in the community under priority one. Brown has attended various student, administration and community-related events. Under priority two, Brown has worked with the chief academic officer and the division's curriculum and instruction team to determine how current curricular resources align with the Standards of Learning (SOL) and levels of professional support. Brown said she is currently waiting on the Department of Education's approval for some hires. Brown has also collaborated with the chief financial officer and city officials to review the division's current finances and has planned to institute a new budget process for the 2025-2026 year to incorporate the best practices aligned with the district's goals. Items Brown has not completed fall under her fifth priority -- to "Analyze Student and Staff Safety and Well-being,"-- however, she says she is currently working on some.
