SOMERSET, Mass. (WLNE) — Somerset police arrested 15 people in September for alleged trespassing at the closed Montaup Power property. The Riverside Avenue site has been a hotspot of arrests for people from surrounding communities, but some came from out of state. Somerset Police Chief William Tedford said that these out-of-towners were caught attempting to climb the plant’s smokestacks while filming for a social media challenge. Somerset police urge the public to avoid this action as the property has been closed and unmaintained since 2008 and is rife with unsafe conditions such as holes in the floors and broken structures.
