BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Get ready to feel the heat in Kern County this Thursday as temperatures are expected to soar to a scorching 102° later today. We might just match the record set way back in 1917 at 103°, talk about cutting it close! The air quality is not doing us any favors either, with pollutants making it unhealthy for all with an AQI of 169. As for Friday, it's a toss-up whether we'll hit 100° or higher, potentially making it an October heat wave. Quite the rarity, but hey, it's happened before. The last time we saw triple digits in October was in 2015, and the last October heat wave was in 1987. There’s a slight cool down coming this weekend, just dipping below 100°. But next week? Well, expect above-average temperatures in the low 90s. The heat advisory has been extended until Friday at 11 PM, so stay cool and hydrated, Kern County!
