For the record: Mentor is the top-ranked Division I team in Ohio per the Associated Press poll, and the Cardinals are also No. 1 in the Division I, Region 1 computer ratings. They’re rolling. However, Shaker Heights has struggled this year, having lost four in a row since starting 2-0 against South and Brush. .. Shaker has been paced by running back Cornell Beard. Not only will the Red Raiders look to jump-start an offense that has scored a total of 41 points over the past four weeks, they’ll also need to ramp up a defense against a Mentor offense that has averaged 45.3 points over the past month. West Virginia recruit Scotty Fox threw for 178 yards and three touchdowns last week against River Rouge, with a WVU assistant roaming the Mentor sideline watching his future quarterback. Jackson Farley ran for 141 yards and is well on his way to a 1,000-yard rushing season. With receivers such as Justen Hodge, Austen Van Huss, Grant Cerny, Dominic Baroni and Marcus Sierputowski, there is the potential for a high-scoring affair by the Mentor offense. Can Shaker keep up with that?
