We call them bicycle bullies. You know who you are. The bicycle bullies are ones telling you that you showed up on the playground with the wrong bike. Wrong color, wrong brand, wrong moodle, or in this case — it’s wrong to use an e-bike on Park City and Summit County trails. They bully us even when you can see their bike, or any bike, is the same. The same, as in they have two wheels, need human engagement, have an endless combination of pedaling assistance — all to help us roll forward while attempting to fight gravity.Lets face it, bicycle bullies are hostile and weird. And the problem is they see their playground as in a universe of make-believe where only their chosen bikes should be allowed.  On the other hand, e-bike riders, like most, are more realistic. They see their playground as one that is built and used by everyone. We believe all bikes are the same and so are their riders.  These realistic riders are easy to spot. They’re the ones who give a thumbs-up and a smile to the bicycle bullies. They don’t stop because they don’t have time for the bullies to flaunt their ignorance or battle their hostility. Our community at large, and its leaders, are all victims of the bicycle bullies. To me, this is a lot of unnecessary resentment and anger, as no matter which bike you bring to the playground, pedal assist is pedal assist, it’s all the same, and there is no real chosen bike.  Still, victim or not, shame on the leaders of Park City, Summit County, Basin Recreation, and the Mountain Trails Foundation for their discriminatory ignorance towards riders, all while creating an e-bike ordinance that lacks validity, is unenforceable, and ends up only promoting, encouraging, and triggering the bad behavior of the bicycle bully. David Young Park CityThe post Two-wheeled bullies appeared first on Park Record.
