BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGPE) - Former Assemblymember Rudy Salas and Congressmember David Valadao questioned each other's math skills as they sparred during Wednesday evening's Central Valley Congressional Debate. The two candidates are running against each other to represent California's 22nd Congressional District in the 2024 election. "Mr. Valadao has chosen to bring up Sacramento when he's been in Congress, he's been elected longer than I've have," said Salas. "Congress can overrule anything that the states do, but he failed to do that." Valadao can be seen shaking his head while Salas spoke. In response, Valadao questioned how Salas reached that number. "Obviously, math is not his thing," he said. "It's 10 years, we both served 10 years. Addition is not your thing, apparently." Valadao has served five terms in Congress, totaling 10 years. Salas was elected to the California Assembly in 2012 until 2022, serving 10 years as well. The debate was hosted in Bakersfield, California, and was moderated by CBS47's Brian Dorman and KGET's Alex Fisher.
