Volunteer pilot involved in airplane accident near Tulare

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A volunteer pilot dedicated to flying people to medical appointments is in the hospital after the aircraft he was aboard was involved in an accident.
According to Angel Flight West, Mike Evans was flying home from a mission of theirs when the aircraft was involved in an accident near Tulare's Mefford Field Airport. The charity organization says the accident occurred around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Although Evans's condition is currently unknown, the charity says he is receiving care at the hospital. No Angel Flight West passenger was onboard during the incident, per organization officials.
"Evans has been an Angel Flight West volunteer pilot since 2013 and has touched the lives of many patients and families," a social media post by Angel Flight West reads.
Angel Flight West says that while the cause of the accident is unknown at this time, and they are cooperating with authorities, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), as the incident is being investigated.
