FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Over $130,000 worth of meth have been seized during a traffic stop on the I-5 in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol announced Wednesday. Officers say on Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. a K-9 officer conducted an enforcement stop on a Chrysler van traveling northbound I-5 and Panoche Road for a traffic violation. Upon contact, the officer reported noting several indicators leading him to believe both occupants were engaged in criminal activity. After developing a probable cause, the officer searched the vehicle and found about 15 pounds of meth in the rear cargo area of the vehicle. Additionally, investigators say the passenger was found in possession of cocaine. As a result, CHP says 25-year-old Eduardo Castaneda-Raymundo and 40-year-old Juan Manuel Salas-Ponce, both of Washington state, were arrested. “I am incredibly proud of our officers for their keen instincts and thorough police work duringthis traffic stop,” said CHP Central Division Chief Damon Gilmore. “Their actions not onlyremoved a significant amount of dangerous drugs from our highways but also demonstrated our unwavering commitment to keeping California’s communities safe.” Officers say both were booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine for sale, transportation of methamphetamine across non-contiguous counties, and possession of cocaine.
