The Broncos will be honoring the past on Sunday against the Raiders. Denver will debut its throwback uniforms — an ode to the 1977 design and years of the “Orange Crush.” It’s safe to say cornerback Pat Surtain II is digging the old-school vibe. “I’m not gonna lie, it’s my favorite uniform combo,” Surtain said after Wednesday’s practice. “I wish we (could) wear them more (often). I have to come out (with swagger) this week and put something together.” The Broncos unveiled their throwback uniforms in April along with their Mile High Collection, which they have worn throughout the season. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton expressed excitement for the uniforms, calling the helmets, which feature the iconic “D” logo, “eye candy.” “Y’all see them bad boys…(those uniforms) are sweet,” Sutton said. “The threads are going to be nice. What’s going to make the moment more fulfilled is if we can get a win.” Head coach Sean Payton said the uniforms reminded him of when he watched the Broncos growing up. In addition to Denver debuting its throwback jerseys, the team will induct Steve Foley and Riley Odoms into the Ring of Fame and honor Randy Gradishar for his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction. The Broncos will also honor the 1977 Super Bowl team. “I also got 42 tickets for this weekend, so that’s been driving me crazy,” Payton said. “I don’t even know where they’re all coming from. It’ll be great to have our alumni back (and) see our guys going in the Ring of Honor.” Badie may be headed to IR: Broncos running back Tyler Badie is a potential injured reserve candidate, Payton said. Badie did not participate in Wednesday’s practice and was listed on the team’s injury report with a neck injury. Badie was immobilized and carted into the locker room after getting hit in the lower back/side area during Denver’s win over the New York Jets in Week 4. On Monday, Payton said Badie was doing better. With Badie expected to be out for an extended period, undrafted rookie Blake Watson has a chance to make his debut on Sunday. Watson has been inactive the past four weeks but is ready to go if his number is called. “I’m getting the feel of certain things (by) getting different looks from the linebackers and how they blitz,” Watson said. “Watching all of (the running backs) and taking bits and pieces from each of their games can definitely help elevate me.” In other injury news, safety JL Skinner (ankle) was limited while wide receiver Josh Reynolds (foot) was a full participant. Sutton on giving Nix his first TD ball: Sutton felt like he was a part of history in the third quarter against New York when he caught Nix’s first touchdown pass. Sutton said no matter who caught the touchdown, they were tasked with giving Nix the ball. Coincidentally, the 28-year-old made his first career touchdown reception against the Jets in 2018. “It’s a huge moment for him to have,” Sutton said. “This is the first of many. God willing, he is going to have a long successful career. I’m happy to share that moment with him.” Want more Broncos news? Sign up for the Broncos Insider to get all our NFL analysis.
