HAYWARD, Calif. (KRON) -- One question voters will face in Alameda County in November is if they support a recall of District Attorney Pamela Price. On Thursday, Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) announced his support of the recall. Congressman Swalwell says public safety is one of the biggest concerns here in Alameda County, but that the DA has failed the victims of violent crimes. “We’re gathered to make a statement to the community that District Attorney Pam Price has failed the people of the East Bay," Swalwell said. When will the Bay Area heat wave end? Price faces a possible recall, depending on what voters decide next month. She launched her campaign with supporters against the recall back in May. On Wednesday, Swalwell announced his support of the recall efforts. “The cops catch, and Price releases," Swalwell said. "Violent robberies and burglaries and home invasion robberies continue to be on the rise.” The United States congressman was joined by several families who have lost a loved one to gun violence -- including Lori Mohs whose son Blake was shot and killed while working security at a Home Depot in Pleasanton. Mohs says DA Price refused to meet with her after the shooting and never prosecuted the two suspects to the full extent of the law. Five Bay Area private high schools make Niche’s top 10 in California “As a mother, I should be thinking about how to represent my child at his celebration of life and what he’s supposed to wear and if I’m supposed to cremate him or bury him," Mohs said. "Instead, I’m trying to figure out what is happening to the people who did this to my family, to my child.” KRON4 reached out to Price for comment about Swalwell’s support of the recall. Price's office referred us to the Protect the Win Campaign, which sent the following statement. “His support for an effort that undermines a fellow Democrat and rejects the position of local Democrats has left many of his constituents feeling betrayed. Some are questioning whether Swalwell is out of touch with the very people he claims to represent.” Price's campaign released a separate statement, accusing Swalwell of becoming a Republican. "Today, Congressman Eric Swalwell declared his allegiance to the Alameda County Republican Party by joining the undemocratic efforts to overturn the November election," the statement read. “I know that Miss Price and I are in the same political party, but this isn’t about a political party," Swalwell said. "This is about the safety of the community.” Prior to becoming a U.S. Congressman, Swalwell worked in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor.
