(KRON) -- A fourth San Jose State University volleyball match was canceled when Utah State University opted to forfeit its upcoming match against the Spartans, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said. On Tuesday, the University of Wyoming became the third school to cancel its game against SJSU. The forfeits come after an SJSU player said in a lawsuit that her teammate is transgender. "It is essential that we preserve a space for women to compete fairly and safely. Our female athletes are left grappling with this difficult issue because the NCAA has failed in its responsibility to protect female athletes and women’s sports," Cox said. Boise State also opted to forfeit its match against SJSU, and a match between Southern Utah and SJSU in September did not go forward. SJSU's match against Colorado State on Thursday is scheduled to go forward as planned. None of the schools issued a reason for why the matches were canceled. From food to murder, Aaron Rodgers talks all things Berkeley ahead of College GameDay appearance "After a lengthy discussion, the University of Wyoming will not play its scheduled conference match against San José State University in the UniWyo Sports Complex on Saturday, Oct. 5. Per Mountain West Conference policy, the Conference will record the match as a forfeit and a loss for Wyoming. The Cowgirls will host Fresno State on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex," Wyoming said in a statement. Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon applauded the move on X, just as Cox and Idaho Gov. Brad Little did after schools in their states decided to forfeit. "I am in full support of the decision by (Wyoming athletics) to forego playing its volleyball match against San Jose State. It is important we stand for integrity and fairness in female athletics," Gordon said. SJSU player Brooke Slusser joined a lawsuit that several female athletes filed in Georgia regarding transgender players in college sports. She said that her teammate, Blaire Fleming, told her she is transgender. Slusser further claims Fleming can spike the ball at 80 miles per hour and her teammates fear for their safety in practice.
