TOPEKA (KSNT) - Drivers should expect a nearly two-mile detour when traveling on Southeast 29th Street for the next six weeks. Starting Monday, Oct. 7, a contractor with the City of Topeka will completely close Southeast 29th Street from Southeast Adams Street to Southeast Virginia Avenue, according to Topeka Director of Communications and Media Relations Dan Garrett. People can access the Shawnee Country Club from the north on Southeast Virginia Avenue. As road work moves along, access to the Country Club will move to Southeast Maryland Avenue, according to Garrett. This plan allows crews to finish all cross-road storm pipes, sanitary and water work projects on schedule before the winter season. This work is expected to take six weeks, weather permitting. Kansas law enforcement wear pink badges in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month The detour for the project above is the following:    Eastbound: Eastbound 29th to southbound Adams, southbound Adams to eastbound 37th, eastbound 37th to northbound California. Westbound: Westbound 29th to southbound California, southbound California to westbound 37th, westbound 37th to northbound Adams. The outside northbound lane of Southeast Adams Street through the Southeast 29th Street intersection will be blocked to traffic for a storm pipe installation project. According to Garrett, Southeast 29th Street from Southeast Iowa Avenue to Southeast Colorado Avenue will reopen with a temporary surface this week to local traffic and businesses.
